The Air Jordan 11 is a silhouette we’re always happy to see get some airtime. While it has a number of classic palettes that occasionally earn a Retro rerelease, seeing brand-new colorways like the Air Jordan 11 Midnight Navy prove that it’s a design that deserves more respect.

It features a Midnight Navy base with nubuck replacing the traditional mesh build as well as velvet used instead of patent leather. Its signature shade of blue spans the entire upper, save for the silver branding elements such as the shoe’s Jumpman hardware on the lateral. Above the mudguard, a nubuck upper also pops up alongside a leather tongue. The remainder of the sneaker sticks to the 11’s standard look, including its sole unit which favors white at the midsole and navy at the rubber outsole.

A velvet mudguard sets the Nike Air Jordan 11 Midnight Navy off, bringing a changing sheen to the colorway that sometimes appears deep and dark and other times lighter and washed-out. Changing with the light, the velvet mudguard plays a central role in this show.

Pros: SEXY, traction when clean, cushioning, fit, stability, containment

Cons: traction gets iffy when rubber gets harder/older and can get slick on dusty floors, cushioning could be updated but not needed, carbon fiber makes shoe stiffer than newer shoes
