Description
With Rihanna serving as the official Creative Director of Fenty x PUMA, this Fenty x Puma collaboration reintroduces the Puma Avanti, which debuted back in 2001. This time around, the Avanti is given a new modern makeup to be better suited for the current times. The design of the sneaker aims to create a shoe at the intersection of two of PUMA’s mainstays, the King football boot and the Easy Rider running sneaker.
Crafted from premium black leather, the wavy stitch pattern and vintage football boot-style panelling will have you feeling nostalgic. A sail Formstrip along the sidewall is an elegant touch, with the addition of the foldable tongue tapping into its sporting roots. Taking notes from PUMA’s archival jogging silhouettes is the lugged outsole, referencing cult classics such as the Miele and Rocket, meaning you can rock these on both the astroturf or walkway. Of course, the gum sole is another timeless touch, its brown palette reflected by the leather lining and plush sock liner that gives you that snug feel. Black laces arrive with gold dubraes which along with the gold foil Fenty wordmark, imbues this pair with a regal touch.
The new sneaker borrows elements from both soccer and lifestyle silhouettes, boasting a black and white stitched leather upper with a fold-over tongue. It’s got a regal vibe that’s unmistakably Rihanna. The PUMA cat logo takes a backseat while Rihanna’s signature “F” branding graces the tongue and heel tab – a clear nod to the Fenty touch. What you end up getting is a narrow vintage leather shoe, a slim sole and prominent, folded tongue that houses both Fenty and Puma branding.
About Puma Suede shoes?
The Suede underwent various title changes during its more than 50-year existence and evolved into a classic. The shoe was originally known as PUMA CRACK before changing its name to CLYDE, PUMA STATES, and ultimately, PUMA Suede.
In the years before 1968, the globe had not yet adopted collected trainers for personal enjoyment or, even better, wearing them for leisure. That indicated that the shoes were created with certain purposes in mind.
Yet times were shifting, and PUMA’s first “lifestyle” shoe, the “CRACK,” was introduced in 1968, just in time for the Mexico Olympics. The PUMA Suede seemed to have been unconsciously created decades previously with the esthetic criteria of its adherents in mind when rap, breakdancing, and graffiti came together in the 1980s to establish the revolutionary new genre that was hip-hop. The silhouette was also adored by the skating community during that time.
Over the years, the silhouette has received numerous makeovers, not only as part of GRs but also under joint ventures. In 2023, the sneaker community will see more colorways, most recently the PHANTACi’s collab sneaker design was revealed.
