Description
On the Kobe 8, the brief was to implement Engineered Mesh across the upper for the first time on a basketball shoe. The result was a seamless, breathable fit that not only hugged the foot, but took well to color.
Two purposefully chosen colorways are undoubtedly a visual assault on the eyes appearing in a colorful orange-driven colorway in addition to a relatively blue version as shown in the first image. Both shoes maintain the same on-court performance that you’d come to expect from a premium shoe.
It’s not insanely well ventilated but it is the most well ventilated Kobe to date. With the fit and the appropriate sock, they feel just fine. I personally don’t require too much ventilation so long as the materials are able to retain their shape & these do that just fine.
The Nike Kobe 8 Returns: Why Now & What’s Next?
When the Nike Kobe 8 debuted in November 2012, Kobe Bryant’s body was breaking down even if his competitive spirit remained at an all-time high.
Looking back we now know Kobe Bryant ruptured his Achilles and fractured the lateral tibial plateau in his left knee in the Nike Kobe 8. Besides this unfortunately event, the Kobe 8 was popular for its looks and fit. In a U.S. men’s size 9, the Kobe 8 System created Kobe’s lowest and lightest performance basketball shoe at just 9.6 ounces.
Creative Director Eric Avar, his team and Kobe collaborated to come up with the Kobe 8. Featuring a Lunarlon cushioning, the midsole insert was lightweight and allowed for great comfort. The upper consists of ultra light engineered mesh to allow flexibility and breathability.
