The SC Elite v3 hits the market as New Balance’s new super carbon plate sneaker. It’s the top of the line sneaker, made for your race day. It comes as the successor to the RC Elite v2, with the same FuelCell midsole and the same midsole height (35mm/31mm, 4mm drop). The weight is practically the same (230g). But don’t be fooled, because the similarities stop there: we have several changes and practically a completely different sneaker.
One of the main changes is the “Energy Arc” technology: a combination where the carbon fiber plate configuration has an inverted “U” shaped shape on the back of the plate, and where the shoe incorporates a groove or channel ( very wide and deep) in the longitudinal direction, from the heel area to the forefoot area. This combination means that when stepping, the two lateral parts of the midsole are compressed downwards and outwards and, together with the inverted “U” shaped plate in the heel area, store the energy when landing in the stride, and release it as soon as the weight is removed with the transition from stride to toe off. This technology creates an extremely pleasant, cushioning and responsive running experience. This was the propulsion that was missing from its predecessor. The RC Elite v2 was a very soft sneaker with excellent cushioning, but it lacked that more pronounced propulsion from the plate/midsole set, and was considered by many to be very soft, with that feeling of quicksand (where the foot sinks into the foam).
The upper has also been reformulated, with a “boot” shape and an elastic, integrated knit tongue. The midsole now comes in two densities, a firmer one at the top and a softer one at the bottom. In terms of width, the SC Elite v3 has become wider at the rear and narrower at the front.
Check out with me all the changes that were made to take this super sneaker to new heights. The SC Elite v3 has become one of my favorite sneakers of 2023 so far!
Are New Balance shoes high quality?
A top choice for fitness walkers, New Balance shoes are known for their plush comfort and quality construction. The brand also offers sneakers in a wide range of styles that provide extra support for different types of wearers, like those with flat feet or fallen arches.
Why is New Balance so comfortable?
Walking shoes should provide comfort and support while minimizing foot pain and issues like plantar fasciitis. New Balance’s walking shoes generally have thick, cushioned midsoles that absorb impact, as well as well-designed footbeds that provide arch support (although some of their models are more minimal).
