Description
This particular edition comes in a palette of Light Orewood Brown, Sesame, Baroque Brown, Sail, and Safety Orange, offering a blend of style and functionality while sharing personal narratives. Crafted from a mix of soft fabrics and supple nubuck overlays, the upper incorporates perforations for breathability along the ankle. A cream-colored finish lands on the inner-lining and perforated collar area, creating an “aged” effect in line with Booker’s affinity with restomods, which also informed Benjamin Nethongkome’s design.
The Nike Book 1 also pays tribute to Devin Booker’s life journey. The inner side features a barcode with significant numbers like his jersey number and the zip codes of Grand Rapids and Phoenix, alongside his family’s initials on the tongue tag. The heel tab, resembling the pages of a book, showcases Booker’s birth year, “96”. The “Chapter One” spine on the heel cleverly nods to the shoe’s name, inspired by book spines.
About Devin Booker and Nike Book 1
The Nike Book 1 features elements that help with lateral stability, cushioning and underfoot responsiveness, the same release said. Under the hood of the shoe, as it were, Nike design teams layered Cushlon 2.0 foam within the midsole and “a rigid TPU sidewall for added support, with a top-loaded Nike Zoom airbag in the heel”, the release said.
Just like his beloved Chevy, the outside of the shoe is all about the aesthetics coupled with purpose. For example, work-wear canvas and twill on the upper provide further durability. Meanwhile, a suede collar and leather across the forefoot contribute to a plush and broken-in feel.
