Description
The shoe first released in 2009 as an ode to Kobe Bryant and Team USA’s gold medal success in the 2008 Beijing Olympics with the renowned “Redeem Team.” The upcoming Protro will align with the 2024 Paris Olympics as Team USA will seek a gold medal once again with Kevin Durant, Devin Booker and others.
The Metallic Gold on the toe and heel features a snakeskin texture. Dark Obsidian decorates the Swoosh logos, liner, and mesh tongues, with more Gold on the Kobe shield logo. Bryant’s Olympic number “10” is on the heels, and his signature graces the sides. White covers the panels with Obsidian FlyWire. Insoles feature Olympic medals with the date “08.24.08,” White midsoles, and a mix of all these shades on the rubber outsole.
About Kobe 4 Protro:
The Protro edition of the Kobe 4 is nearly identical to the original. The Kobe 4s worn by Luka were a “Protro” version, which slimmed the heel shape and increased the range of the traction. The heel Zoom Air and soft phylon foam remained in the cushioning, providing lightweight bounce when landing on the heel. The upper features synthetic leather uppers, with Flywire panels in the midfoot for added lockdown. It’s a bit softer in the brand-new iteration thus giving a slightly softer feel under-foot.
Why are Kobe shoes so good?
Compared to other Nike signature shoes, the line designed for Kobe has always focused on sports performance rather than the aesthetics of Instagram or endorsements of rappers. Since Bryant switched from adidas to Nike in 2003, his signature shoes have become synonymous with performance and attention to detail
