Sean Wotherspoon and adidas are back, this time having added a third mind to the mix: artist Zhang Quan. Under their respective labels (Wotherspoon’s Round Two and Quan’s Melting Sadness), the designers joined forces for an adidas Superstar collaboration perfect for wabbit season.
The team-up expands on Melting Sadness’ recurring rabbit theme (Bunny Superstars included) with fresh albeit tasteful materials and Sean Wotherspoon’s eye-catching palette (as showcased in his hemp-y Gazelles and unraveled Superstars).
Corduroy, hemp and leather fabric forms majority of the upper, dressed in a colorful compositions of colors which hints Wotherspoon’s influences. The latest sneaker’s sole also boasts deliberate scuffing, like Melting Sadness’ previous adidas shoe.
This comes accentuated by distressed detailing throughout alongside a special woven “SUPERSTAR” profile. Melting Sadness then adds their flamboyant touch with accessories throughout, including rabbit ear extensions, reminiscing of their KARORO character.
Last but certainly not least, the Superstar’s laces are decked out in patches, echoing the spirit of both labels and making for a playful finish to the statement shoe.
THE STORY OF THE ADIDAS FORUM
Whether it was because of their innovation, proven performance on the court, or their price of 100 dollars, the Forum was the fashion-crush for countless artists and/or references from all over the world such as Michael Jordan, who just positioned them as the silhouette of the 80s. We put the focus on their qualities and outstanding history.
First love never dies, and neither do the Forums. Their story began in 1983 in France. The designer Jacques Chassaing would be an essential player in both the outsider team of the 80s and the current one.
The ideologist thought of creating a basketball sport that would favor the whole team, keeping in mind the diversity of athletes, their different roles, and physical characteristics. Through conversations with coaches and players, he located the weak point in the ankle. He visualized the bands used by the psychotherapists to stabilize it and decided to integrate a stabilizing element into the shoe: the ‘criss-cross ankle system’, which embraces and protects the whole area.
