the release founder Marcus Jordan has shared the inspiration behind the shoe’s unique design and color scheme: his father Michael Jordan’s trophy room, an important part of the house he grew up in.
“This launch is more than just a sneaker to me,” Marcus Jordan said in a statement. “I wanted our first iteration of [an Air Jordan] 1-14 Retro to be something special & memorable. It was important for the design to be authentic & unique, so I incorporated all of the colors from the original trophy room in our house into one of my favorite silhouettes, the Jordan 5.”
The shoe’s ice blue, sail, and red palette present a triumphant look, one that’s accented by subtle gold hits. Plenty of special details are present as well, with a “5” replacing the regular “23” hit on the left shoe’s lateral side alongside a Trophy Room graphic on the heel, while the right shoe’s original branding remains intact. The Friends & Family Red iteration sports similar blue accents on the midfoot panel, but swapsthe black Jumpman on the “Ice Blue” pair for cool-hued Nike Air branding. Cork insoles and hardwood-themed outsoles provide extra premium flair, each pair has an x/7,000 graphic on the sockliner, nodding to their limited run, and they also come wrapped in a plastic sheath inspired by the estate’s famous gate. A premium shoebox, plush dustbag, court-printed wrapping paper and co-branded cork insoles complete the upscale take on the iconic basketball sneakers.
How comfortable are Air Jordan 5s?
On a scale of 1-10, I would rate the Jordan 5, 7.5 in terms of comfort. The Jordan 5 silhouette may be heavy, but they’re extremely soft inside, and the tongue is thick and cushiony. For this reason, I would recommend them for those long days when you’re constantly on your feet.
How do you care for Air Jordan 5s?
The Air Jordan 5 is made from nubuck leather; to keep them clean, I spray them with a sneaker protector before wearing them outside. After wearing them, I remove any dirt using a nubuck brush and return them to their original box, mainly so they don’t get dusty.
